Tech giant Google celebrates Nusrat, one of the most influential music-makers of Asia.
He was born and raised in Lyallpur, a city named after the Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab, James Broadwood Lyall by the British. Later, the Pakistani government changed the name of the city to Faisalabad in honor of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. This pretty much reflects our journey from British Colonialism to state-imposed Arabization. Here’s what we believe in: let’s disown our colonial past and the ongoing Arabization of the Pakistani society; rename the city after Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Let’s call it Nusratpur!
